Three, and sometimes more, times a year, members have the chance to visit historic buildings that are not generally open to the public.  These buildings are normally in Somerset but, sometimes, we "venture" into neighbouring counties.  After our tours everyone indulges themselves in a delicious tea - this is the spoiling ourselves bit!  The visits take place in late Spring, the Summer and in the late Autumn.  The latter coincides with the Trust's Annual General Meeting, to which all members are welcome.  On that occasion we forego tea for a good buffet lunch.  Normally a small charge is made to cover entrance fees, food etc.

Our last visit was to Whitestaunton Manor, Nr Chard. Click on "About SBPT" for more information about the visit. So many membes wanted to come on the visit an extra one has been organised in July. We are very grateful to the owners for allowing this as the House is not open to the public.   Yet again Sampford Arundel WI indulged us with another glorious afternoon tea.

Our visits to Norwood Park Farm (Grade II* listed), and The Farmstead (Grade II* listed) - both near Glastonbury were a great success.   Both these buildings have been saved from dereliction and members were very grateful to have the opportunity to see them.  The outbuildings at Norwood Park Farm and in the process of being converted by the owner, Mr Harrisson, into cottages for retired farm workers.  This is an entirely philanthropic gesture on his part which is most heart-warming.  At the Farmstead there is still some considerable work to be undertaken but it will be the most lovely home once everything has been completed.    After these visits we relaxed with a delicious cream tea!

Our next visit, on the 24th October 2008, will be linked with the AGM at the Wells Museum, which will be followed by a tour of the Wells Cathedral Development Project.

The SBPT Secretary keeps members kept fully informed about the visits and also sends up-dates on the projects and activities currently being undertaken by the SBPT Trustees.
